Happy new year and welcome back!
We have been introduced to our new topic, ‘How is living in China different to the UK?’ this week. We are lucky enough to have Mandarin lessons on Wednesdays taught by Mr Yang from China.

In our topic lesson, we shared facts that we already know about China and asked some questions about things we would like to find out. We found the UK and China on the globe.

Here are some of our questions:

We will have the opportunity to ask Mr Yang our questions so we will update the blog with his responses!

We have been looking at different coins and explaining their worth. We then worked in pairs to pretend to buy toys from a toy shop. The shop keeper worked out the price of 2 toys and the customers counted out money to give him/her.

We can help do the shopping now!

Linked to our topic ‘Where does our food come from?’, we have been looking at artwork by Arcimboldo and Mercier. We designed and made our own sculptures inspired by Arcimbolodo, who painted portraits made of fruit and vegetables, and Mercier, who created portraits made from biscuits and sweets!

Here are a few pictures of us working together and of our finished sculptures.

Have a look at our first attempts at animation!

We got our inspiration from the ‘Farmer Pete Number Bond Song’ and decided to make our own animations.

Whilst watching our animations we discussed ways we could improve them, so they are far from finished but we worked well in our co-operative groups.

Questioning Handa

We looked at questions and had to correct Miss Duckworth when she wrote a sentence instead of a question!

We then used question words and question marks to write our own questions for Handa about the story.

Handa visited! We got to ask Handa some of our questions such as:

Where did you take the fruit?

Why did you carry the basket on your head?

When did you go to Akeyo’s village?

Thank you for visiting, Handa!
